Back to the beach...

This weekend Emmy made her second trip to the beach, this time for Brandi and Nate's wedding (see below pics of the beautiful bride). Sadly, Em still seemed to hate the sand, sun and surf. Her eyes are just too sensitive to the bright sunlight. I put her little feet down in the wet sand and she was fine with that. It wasn't until the water rushed up that she lost her cool. The waters were quite rough for the Gulf...all because of the storm surge from Hurricane Ike that hit Texas. It was wild to watch.

You'll see below how good Em is getting at tummy time, although I wouldn't say she loves it by any means. She's starting to roll on her side every time she's on her back, so I'd say rolling over is right around the corner.

Little EJ is getting really good at grasping and batting at her toys...and then chewing on them. Anything she's able to get her hands on goes straight into her mouth. I wouldn't be surprised if she has a couple teeth make a grand appearance soon. The doctor informed us a couple months ago that she was already teething, and judging by the amount of drool pouring from her mouth, those teeth will be here before we know it!

Shout out to Dad

10 days and counting...that's how long Drew has been in CT at training. We're so proud of how hard he's working. He's done very well on his tests, role plays, and pig operations (yep, you heard me right).

We have 8 days until Em and I make a trip up to see him for the night, and about 14 days until he comes home. For a few days at least. We just found out that he'll have to leave again the following Monday for more training, but this time for just 4 days.

We miss him terribly, and I know he misses us too. But in the end it will all be worth it.

I send several picture texts daily to Drew to keep him up on June Bug's looks. Babies change so fast! Below are some of my favorites.

Happy September Birthdays!

The fam came over Saturday afternoon to celebrate Cousin Michelle and Uncle Gary's birthdays. The weather was beautiful - warm and breezy. We had a little picnic in the park and then played a little bocce ball. Here are a few pics from the day.

Quite a few updates…

It’s been a few weeks since we posted, so we have quite a bit to update on.

Perhaps the biggest event we’ve been dealing with the past couple weeks is Emmy attending her new school, and mommy going back to school (or, uh, work). It hasn’t been easy, but I think we’re all adjusting pretty well. Emmy’s teachers at Wieuca seem wonderful and very experienced – Ms. Brenda has been in the infant room for 13 years and Ms. Catherine has 9 children! So it isn’t that I feel nervous about our little baby’s care, I just miss her terribly! By the time we get home, have tubby time and a bottle, June Bug can hardly keep her eyes open and it’s time for bed. So needless to say, we now live for the weekends, and savor every minute we all get to spend together.

Emmy has gotten to be so much fun and is so happy all (or at least most) of the time. There are a few things she doesn’t like – getting dressed for the day, being strapped into her car seat, or any gadget for that matter. Our little one is definitely a morning person. Could it be she sleeps 11-12 hours a night and is well rested? Like I said, she is most happy in the morning, but has started giving us smiles all day long, when prompted. She even let out a few belly laughs yesterday while on the changing table – which yes, is her favorite place to hang out.

We also had another momentous happening occur yesterday, at least we thought it was – Emmy got in the pool and didn’t cry! She actually seemed to like it. We’ve been trying since she was about 2 months old, so it only took a month and a half for her to adjust. We’re so excited, I think we may make a trip back tomorrow to try it out again.

Emmy also made her first trip to church this morning. We sat in the back with several other babies and their families. Em made it the whole time without a tear. The bottle I brought certainly helped. One of the families we sat with was the Hood’s. Their daughter, Amelia, is a few weeks older than Emmy. It’s pretty funny, but the company Meggan works for is one of our Agency’s clients, so while I didn’t know her, I had been made aware of her daughter’s blog and had been following it so that I could see what I could expect out of Emmy in the coming weeks.

Emmy also started The Music Class this week. She attends the class with all infants under 10 months. It’s so funny to see the babies’ faces light up when the music is on and they are able to play with the instruments.

We've also taken a couple road trips. First was for Aunt Heidi's bday up to her parents' lake house and then also to Asheville last weekend. Junebug did wonderfully and just slept in the baby bjorn during the Biltmore tour. It was nice to get away for a couple days.

So on to the not so fun update…Daddy leaves on Tuesday for corporate training in Connecticut…for 3 ½ weeks and he isn’t allowed to come home! We’re all feeling very sad. Em and I may make a trip up to see daddy if we just can’t take it, and if it fits into the rigorous schedule he’ll be put through. We’re going to set up the webcams on both of our computers so that we can have several webcam calls. Emmy grows so quickly, and we don’t want daddy to miss it!

Sugar Gram will be headed to Destin with June Bug and me for Brandi and Nate’s wedding in a couple weeks. Sadly, Daddy will still be at training, so he can’t attend. I’ll be sure and post some pics from that weekend! But in the meantime, check out some of my favorite photos from the past few weeks. The Nantucket onesie was a gift from her uncles Kyle and Willis...she just loves it! :)

Airborne!

Emmy and I took our first plane ride together this week to see her Great Mom-mom in Florida. Flying with a little baby really is easy, as long as you get lucky and they sleep through the whole experience. You are let through at the beginning of the security lines (and for those of you who have flown Monday mornings out of Hartsfield-Jackson, you know how priceless that is), everyone feels inclined to help load your things through the security scanner, and nice passengers will load your carry-on baggage for you in the overhead compartment.

Sugar Gram and Great Mom-mom picked us up in Orlando and we then made the quick drive to see Great Pop-pop for what would have been his 89th birthday, then to The Villages, where GM-M’s house is located. We had wonderful visit…see below some photos taken of our time with Emmy’s Great Mom-Mom…

Emmy’s first beach trip!

We headed to Seagrove beach last week, along with Shug (short for “Sugar Gram”, my mom’s decided-upon grandmother name). The adults all had a great time, but the little Bug wasn’t crazy about the bright sun or the sand. She was happiest when we came inside to the air conditioning and she could open her eyes -- what a little pris-pot!

See below some of my favorite pics from the trip…

Our happy little 2 month old...

Emmy is really starting to develop her personality and it's so much fun to watch. See below some pics of our happy baby's smiles. I just can't get enough of them!

I have a little over 3 weeks left until I head back to work, so we're doing our best to make the most of it. We're headed to the beach next week for a few days of fun and relaxation. I'm sure I'll have some pics from that to share.
